Musicians re-unite from across the Atlantic to support local environmental group

The international duo Janie Meneely and Rob van Sante will be travelling from their home in Whitby, England, to perform a concert of Chesapeake Bay folk music with Jefferson Holland to benefit the local environmental group, Annapolis Green. The concert will take place at the Galesville Memorial Hall on Friday, May 6, at 8 p.m. Admission is $20 per person. Advance sale tickets are available at jeffersonholland.com. Beer & wine will be available for purchase for those over 21 years of age. Soft drinks and water will also be served.

Annapolis Green was founded in 2006 and now, 15 years later, the organization serves as the hub of the city’s environmental movement, uniting and inspiring the Greater Annapolis community.

Janie Meneely and Rob van Sante bring a breath of salt air to any stage. Their collaborative effort, marked by evocative instrumentals, strong vocals and original arrangements support an array of mostly maritime, mostly new material.

Singer/songwriter Janie Meneely brings her nautical perspective to the world of folk music and storytelling, celebrating the maritime history, characters, and traditions of the Chesapeake Bay region where she was born and raised.

In 2015, she partnered with Dutch-born guitarist Rob van Sante who lends his knack for melodies and flair for vocal harmony to Meneely’s compositions.

Jefferson Holland is a modern-day Chesapeake Troubadour: singer, songwriter, poet, story-teller, performing all original material inspired by decades of life on the Bay. Jeff served as the director of the Annapolis Maritime Museum and the Riverkeeper for the West and Rhode Rivers. He and Janie co-founded the Chesapeake folk group “Crab Alley,” which toured around the Bay in the 1980s and ’90s. Jeff founded “Them Eastport Oyster Boys” with partner Kevin Brooks in 1992. Currently, he writes an outdoors column in the Annapolis Capital and articles for other publications.
